Yes, Tufdek™ is designed to handle the heavy snow loads common in our area. However, you must use a plastic shovel. Metal shovels with sharp edges can gouge or cut the vinyl membrane. Rock salt is generally safe to use for ice, but we recommend rinsing the deck in the spring to remove any residue.
Safety is a major feature of Tufdek™. The surface is embossed with a textured finish specifically designed to provide traction even when wet. While any wet surface requires caution, Tufdek™ generally offers better slip resistance than smooth wood, composite decking, or painted concrete.
In many cases, yes. If the underlying structural framing of your deck is sound, we don’t need to tear the whole thing down. We will usually install new, high-grade plywood over your existing joists to create a smooth substrate for the vinyl. We will assess your structure during our free inspection.
Yes. Tufdek™ is equipped with “Scuff-Guard” technology, making it highly resistant to scratches from dog claws and general wear. While it is incredibly durable, it is not indestructible; keeping your pet’s nails trimmed is always a good practice to maintain the aesthetic of the floor.
Like any darker surface, standard colors can get warm in the direct summer sun. However, Tufdek™ offers a “Cool-Step™” line of designs. These are highly reflective and can stay up to 10% cooler than standard vinyl options, making them much more comfortable for bare feet.
Absolutely. Tufdek™ is technically a roofing membrane. When we heat-weld the seams and seal the edges, it forms a 100% watertight barrier. This makes it the ideal solution for “roof decks”—where you have a garage, sunroom, or dry storage space located directly underneath the deck.
Maintenance is incredibly easy compared to wood. You never need to sand, stain, or paint it. Generally, a simple wash with water and a mild dish soap (like Dawn) a few times a year is enough. For tougher dirt, a soft-bristled brush works well. Avoid pressure washing at high settings.
Yes, you can enjoy grilling on your deck. However, we highly recommend placing a protective mat under your BBQ. Hot grease drips can damage or stain the vinyl permanently. If you do spill grease, clean it up immediately with warm soapy water.

Composite decking is durable, but it is not waterproof; water flows through the cracks to whatever is below. Tufdek™ provides a waterproof roof and a floor in one. Additionally, Tufdek™ is seamless and easier to clean, whereas debris (pine needles) can get stuck between the gaps of composite deck boards.
